How do I nominate Drs Chellan & Lakay as my GP?+
NeoHealth is registered with medical aids as Drs Chellan & Lakay Inc, practice number 1221566. This is the name and number your scheme needs. Nominate through your medical aid's member portal, app, or by calling your scheme. For Discovery, call 0860 99 8877. Schemes that require GP nomination include Discovery Smart / KeyCare / FlexiCare, GEMS Tanzanite One, GEMS Emerald Value, Fedhealth flexiFED, and POLMED (Marine and Aquarium). Most other schemes do not require nomination. Contact the practice if you're unsure.
How long do Discovery KeyCare and FlexiCare nominations take to activate?+
KeyCare and FlexiCare nominations take approximately one month to activate. A nomination submitted mid-month typically only takes effect from the 1st or 15th of the following month. Example: a nomination submitted on 15 April may only activate on 1 May or 15 May. Other scheme nominations may activate faster. Check with your scheme. If you need to consult before your nomination activates, contact the practice.
Are Drs Chellan & Lakay part of the Discovery Premier Plus GP Network?+
Yes. Both Dr Ethan Chellan and Dr Claudia Lakay are registered Premier Plus GPs on the Discovery Health Medical Scheme network. Discovery members who nominate a Premier Plus GP access the practice as a preferred provider. Quote practice number 1221566 when nominating through your Discovery member app or on 0860 99 8877.
What is pre-authorisation and which schemes require it?+
Pre-authorisation is when your medical scheme must approve a consultation or procedure before you attend. Dis-Chem Health Insurance, PrimeCure, and Kaelo members must pre-authorise every GP consultation through their member app: tap My Benefits → GP Pre-Authorisation → search for 'Drs Chellan & Lakay' (practice number 1221566). Affinity Health members (including NBCPSS, NBCRFLI, MIBCO bargaining council plans) must pre-authorise EVERY consultation, including follow-ups within 7 days. Call 0861 11 00 33 or email auth@affinityhealth.co.za. Without pre-auth, Affinity claims are rejected outright. Contact the practice before booking if you're unsure.
Will I have a co-payment at NeoHealth?+
Co-payments depend on your scheme and plan. Discovery Smart Plan members pay R75 (Classic) or R130 (Essential/Active) per visit. BonStart members pay R130; BonStart Plus members pay R75. GEMS Tanzanite One, Emerald Value, Beryl, BonCap, and POLMED (Marine and Aquarium) members pay a 30% co-payment for non-nominated or out-of-network consultations. Fedhealth flexiFED members pay 20% in-threshold co-payment without a GP referral. Nominating Drs Chellan & Lakay (practice number 1221566) as your GP avoids most of these co-payments.
Does Affinity Health cover my GP visit at NeoHealth?+
Yes, NeoHealth is a registered Affinity Health network provider. However, Affinity requires pre-authorisation BEFORE every consultation, including follow-up visits within 7 days of a previous visit. Without pre-auth, your claim will be rejected outright. Call the Affinity auth line on 0861 11 00 33 (after hours 0861 106 080, option 2) or email auth@affinityhealth.co.za before your visit. Approval typically arrives via SMS or email within 48 hours. Acute medication is covered from the Affinity formulary but must be supplied by an Affinity network pharmacy. Dispensed medication from our rooms is not funded. The same rules apply if you are on an Affinity-administered bargaining council plan (NBCPSS, NBCRFLI, MIBCO).
How many medical aid schemes is NeoHealth contracted with?+
NeoHealth is contracted with 40+ South African medical aid schemes. The logos on our medical aid page highlight our highest-volume contracts; full operational detail is provided for the schemes where members need to nominate, pre-authorise, or plan around a co-payment. If your scheme is not listed, contact the practice and we will confirm your specific cover. We also welcome private patients.
What name and practice number do I use when nominating my GP?+
NeoHealth is registered with medical aids as Drs Chellan & Lakay Inc, practice number 1221566.
