How walking in actually works
Come in during consulting hours and tell reception you do not have an appointment. You are added to the list and seen by the next available doctor.
The honest part: patients who booked are seen at their booked times, and walk-ins are fitted in around them. That means you may wait, and on a busy morning you may wait a while. Nobody who booked gets pushed back to make room, because that would just move the problem onto someone else.
What shortens the wait is that a doctor is not the only clinician in the building. Veronica Terblanche, our professional nurse, works alongside Dr Chellan and Dr Lakay, so your vitals, a dressing change, an injection or a child's growth check are handled as part of the visit rather than queued behind a consulting room door.

- Routine chronic reviews, cervical screening, IUD insertion, minor procedures and IV therapy. These need a booked slot with the right amount of time set aside.
Medicine at the visit
Dr Ethan Chellan and Dr Claudia Lakay, both MBChB (Stellenbosch University), each hold a Section 22C(1)(a) dispensing licence from the National Department of Health. For short-course acute treatment, antibiotics, pain relief, asthma rescue therapy and antihistamines among them, medicine is dispensed at the consultation, so a walk-in often does not mean a second stop at a pharmacy. Chronic medication is collected from a pharmacy of your choice.
