Dr Claudia Lakay

Dispensing General Practitioner & Co-founder

MBChB (Stellenbosch University)

“I’ve always believed that good medicine starts with actually listening. Not just hearing a list of symptoms, but understanding what’s going on in someone’s life — their stress, their sleep, their worries — because all of it matters.”

General practitioner first

Before anything else, Dr Lakay is a family doctor. She sees patients of all ages and genders, from newborns to the elderly, and practises the full scope of general medicine. She holds a dispensing licence from the National Department of Health and dispenses medication on-site, meaning patients leave with what they need in hand. Her emergency training includes PALS, ACLS, and BLS certification, and she has completed the Basic Surgical Skills programme. As a first point of contact, she manages the vast majority of conditions in-rooms and refers only when genuinely needed.

Women’s health — pap smears, IUDs, hormonal care, and more

Dr Lakay is one of the few female GPs in George offering dedicated, comprehensive women’s health care. Many women prefer seeing a female doctor for sensitive examinations and reproductive health, and she has built her practice to meet that need.

Her women’s health services include:

  • Pap smears — both conventional cytology and HPV PCR testing
  • IUD insertions and removals — copper and Mirena (hormonal)
  • Contraception counselling and management
  • Hormonal health assessment and treatment — including PCOS, menopause, and hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
  • Antenatal and postnatal care
  • Postnatal depression screening
  • STI screening and treatment

All of these services are available in-rooms with no gynaecologist referral needed, making quality women’s health care accessible for patients in George and across the Garden Route.

Minor procedures and surgical skills

Dr Lakay holds a Basic Surgical Skills certification and performs a range of minor procedures in-rooms, reducing the need for hospital visits or specialist referrals.

  • Pap smears
  • Suturing of lacerations
  • Abscess incision and drainage (I&D)
  • Ingrown toenail surgery
  • Punch biopsy
  • Excision of skin lesions
  • Shave biopsy
  • Ear syringing
  • Wound care and management
  • Intramuscular, subcutaneous, and corticosteroid injections
  • Trigger point and joint injections

IV therapy

Dr Lakay is certified in IV Vitamin Therapy and is one of the few general practitioners in the Garden Route offering intravenous treatments in-rooms. She administers IV hydration, intravenous antibiotics, analgesia, electrolyte correction, and vitamin and micronutrient infusions. Whether a patient needs acute rehydration, targeted nutritional support, or therapeutic IV medication, it can be managed on-site without a hospital visit.

Aesthetic and regenerative medicine

Dr Lakay has a keen interest in facial rejuvenation, skin health, and anti-ageing medicine. She approaches aesthetic treatments with the same clinical rigour she applies to the rest of her practice — evidence-based, with patient safety as the priority. Every aesthetic consultation includes a proper medical evaluation because good outcomes start with understanding the whole patient, not just the concern in the mirror.

Always learning

Dr Lakay holds ePoCUS accreditation from the Emergency Medicine Society of South Africa and has completed her FPD Telemedicine certification. When she is not in the consulting room, she is exploring the Garden Route and working towards her next qualification.
