Discovery Vitality Health Check
NeoHealth is an accredited Discovery Vitality Wellness Network provider. Members of Discovery Health can complete their annual Vitality Health Check at our practice as part of their routine primary care. We also support Discovery's Personal Health Pathways programme, where NeoHealth is a Premier Plus Network practice supporting eligible primary-care health actions.

GEMS preventive screening guidelinesECG & Lung Function Testing (Spirometry)
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
Records the electrical activity of your heart. Used to detect arrhythmias and heart disease, and to assess cardiovascular risk. Results interpreted same day.
Spirometry (Lung Function Testing)
Measures how much air you can breathe in and out, and how fast. Used to diagnose and monitor asthma, COPD, and other respiratory conditions.
No referral needed. Available during standard consultation hours. Results discussed with you on the day. See our ECG and spirometry on-site page for full scope and indications, and our in-house pathology and lab work for the bloods that often accompany cardiovascular review.
NeoHealth Check
A point-of-care health assessment covering four screening components. Scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays for your convenience.
The NeoHealth Check is designed to give you a clear picture of your overall health in one visit.
Includes:
- Anthropometry: height, weight, waist circumference, BMI
- Point-of-care blood tests: haemoglobin, cholesterol, glucose
- Urinalysis
- HIV testing with pre- and post-test counselling
Scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays for your convenience. A consent form is required and is available at the practice.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral for screening or diagnostics at NeoHealth?
No. ECG, lung function testing, the Discovery Vitality Health Check, scheme Preventive Care Benefits and the NeoHealth Check are all done in-practice without a referral. You book directly with us.
Is the Vitality Health Check done here, or do I go to a pharmacy?
It is done here. NeoHealth is an accredited Vitality Health Check provider, so your points are captured at the practice by the doctor who knows your history, rather than at a pharmacy counter.
Which schemes pay for preventive screening?
GEMS, POLMED, Bonitas and the MEDSCHEME-administered schemes all carry Preventive Care Benefits that fund screening from the risk benefit rather than from your savings, subject to your option's eligibility rules. We confirm your benefit before the screening rather than after.
What is the difference between a Vitality check and the NeoHealth Check?
The Vitality Health Check is Discovery's own points-earning screening. The NeoHealth Check is our own screening package, offered by booking on Saturdays and Sundays, and it is open to anyone regardless of scheme. They cover different ground and you can do either or both.
How soon do I get my results?
Point-of-care results, including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and urine, are available in the room during the same visit and explained to you then. Anything sent to the laboratory follows the lab's own turnaround and is discussed at a follow-up.
What does screening cost?
It depends on whether the screening is funded by your scheme's preventive benefit, by Vitality, or self-paid. Current rates are on our fees page and reception confirms what you will pay before the screening rather than afterwards.
