Nurse on site, doctor-led care

Our nurse works alongside Dr Ethan Chellan and Dr Claudia Lakay, under their clinical direction. She takes the time that a busy consultation often cannot: your vitals and history, your child's growth and feeding, a wound review, a health screen. Because a doctor is in the same building, anything that needs a GP is dealt with in the same visit rather than booked for another day.

Each of these happens with a doctor in the building, as part of your consultation.

Flu, tetanus and Hepatitis B vaccines

She gives flu and tetanus vaccines, plus Hepatitis B for the registered indications, with a doctor in the building for any reaction. We do not run the state childhood (EPI) schedule or travel vaccines.

Baby and child clinic

Growth, weight, feeding and developmental checks for your baby and young child, with a nurse who has time to answer your questions. If something needs a doctor, you are seen the same visit, not booked for another day.

Child Health

Wound, ear and minor procedures

Wound dressings and reviews, plus ear care like wax removal, by a nurse trained in minor procedures. A doctor is in the building if a wound needs suturing or a problem needs review, so you are not sent elsewhere.

Health checks and chronic medication

On-site health checks: blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, urine and peak flow, done by the nurse, with a doctor in the building if a result needs review. She can also help you set up your repeat chronic medication for delivery through Medipost.

Injections, consultations and family planning

Injections, including vitamin B12, contraceptive and other doctor-prescribed injections, given by the nurse as part of your visit, plus family planning support. A doctor is in the building throughout.

IV vitamin therapy and wellness

IV vitamin drips and wellness support, prescribed after a doctor screening and administered by the nurse, who is Basic Life Support (BLS) certified, with a GP on site throughout. IV therapy pricing is on our fees page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I see a nurse or a doctor?

You see a doctor, and our nurse works alongside them. She handles the parts of your visit that suit nursing care: vitals and history, injections, wound and ear care, health screening, and your child's growth and feeding checks. It is one visit, with one fee.

Is there really a doctor on site when I see the nurse?

Yes. NeoHealth is a GP practice with two doctors, Dr Ethan Chellan and Dr Claudia Lakay, both MBChB (Stellenbosch University). Our nurse works under their clinical direction, and a GP is in the building whenever she is seeing patients.

Which vaccinations can I get from the nurse?

She gives flu and tetanus vaccines, plus Hepatitis B for the registered indications, with a doctor in the building for any reaction. We do not run the state childhood immunisation (EPI) schedule or travel vaccines; your nearest public clinic, Clicks or Dis-Chem is the place for those.

How do I get my repeat chronic medication?

Your repeat chronic medication is dispensed by a pharmacy of your choice or delivered through our Medipost partnership; we do not hold chronic supplies in the rooms. Our nurse can help you set up Medipost delivery and keep your repeats on track, and you still see a doctor for your scheduled reviews.

Is it safe to be seen by the nurse?

Yes. Veronica Terblanche is a SANC-registered Professional Nurse and Clinical Nurse Practitioner, registered as a General Nurse and Midwife with additional registration in Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Primary Health Care) and a Diploma in Clinical Nursing Science, both from Stellenbosch University, with training in HIV and PEP management, IMCI and TB infection control. That registration is what allows her to assess and treat within her scope; she is Basic Life Support certified for emergencies; and a GP is in the building if anything is needed.

What does a nursing visit cost?

There is no separate nursing charge. Nursing care forms part of your consultation with the doctor, so you pay the consultation fee only. Those are listed on our fees page, and we confirm your fee before any treatment.

Can I book the nurse on her own?

No. Veronica works alongside Drs Chellan and Lakay under their clinical direction, so nursing care happens within your consultation with the doctor rather than as a separate appointment.
