Bestmed GP in George, Billed Directly at Reception

NeoHealth (Drs Chellan & Lakay Inc, practice number 1221566) sees Bestmed members at our George Central practice, one of more than 40 South African schemes we accept.

We claim from the scheme at reception rather than asking you to pay up front and claim back. Bestmed runs a range of options with different day-to-day structures, so we verify your card before the consultation and tell you what you will pay before you are seen.

Benefits verified against Bestmed 2026 guides: 14 August 2026

How billing works at NeoHealth

  1. Bring your Bestmed membership card and your ID to every visit.
  2. We claim from the scheme at reception, in real time, at scheme rates.
  3. Any co-payment your option defines is quoted to you before the consultation, not afterwards.
  4. Acute medication dispensed in-rooms where your option allows; chronic medication is collected from a pharmacy of your choice.
  5. Referral letters and pre-authorisations for specialists and procedures arranged in-rooms.
  6. Chronic medicine registration: your doctor completes and signs a chronic medicine application form, emailed with supporting documentation to medicine@bestmed.co.za, Bestmed processes it in 3 to 5 working days. An ICD-10 code is compulsory on every application and prescription, and cover starts only from the date the complete application is received, not backdated.
  7. Hospital and procedure pre-authorisation must be obtained at least 14 days before a planned admission (emergencies notified as soon as possible, or by the first working day after admission), on 080 022 0106 or authorisations@bestmed.co.za.
  8. For PMB conditions specifically, Bestmed requires a designated service provider specialist; seeing a non-network specialist for a PMB condition pays only at the Scheme rate, with the balance for your own account, we check network status before referring.

Bestmed questions, answered

Do you accept Bestmed?

Yes. We see Bestmed members and bill the scheme directly at reception. Bring your membership card and your ID.

Will I have to pay up front?

In most cases no. We claim from the scheme in real time. Where your option defines a co-payment, we tell you the amount before the consultation.

Does my Bestmed option change what is covered?

Yes. Bestmed runs several options with different day-to-day structures, and cover is set by your option rather than by the practice. On the Rhythm range specifically, unlimited GP consultations depend on using a Rhythm GP network doctor, and specialist consultations need that same network GP's referral, we confirm your network status before you're seen.

Do you dispense medicine?

Yes, for short-course acute treatment. Dr Chellan and Dr Lakay each hold a Section 22C(1)(a) dispensing licence, so antibiotics, pain relief, asthma rescue therapy and similar can be dispensed at the consultation. Chronic medication is collected from a pharmacy of your choice.

Can I be seen on a Saturday?

Yes. We consult 09:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays and 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, and we accept walk-in patients during consulting hours.
