MEDSCHEME-administered, direct billing

MBMed GP in George, Billed Directly at Reception

NeoHealth (Drs Chellan & Lakay Inc, practice number 1221566) sees MBMed members at our George Central practice. MBMed Medical Aid Fund is a restricted scheme administered through MEDSCHEME.

We accept members of the schemes MEDSCHEME administers and claim from the scheme at reception, rather than asking you to pay up front and claim back. Day-to-day benefit rules differ by option, so we verify your card before the consultation and tell you what you will pay before you are seen.

How billing works at NeoHealth

  1. Bring your membership card and your ID to every visit so reception can verify your option before you are seen.
  2. We claim from the scheme at reception, in real time, at scheme rates.
  3. Any co-payment your option defines is quoted to you before the consultation, not afterwards.
  4. Acute medication dispensed in-rooms where your option allows; chronic medication is collected from a pharmacy of your choice or delivered through Medipost.
  5. Referral letters and pre-authorisations for specialists and procedures arranged in-rooms.
  6. Your NeoHealth GP is your first point of contact before a specialist visit. We refer you through the scheme's Healthcare Professional Portal, or reception can call the Healthcare Provider Contact Centre on 0861 112 666 if a referral needs to be arranged urgently.

MBMed questions, answered

Do you accept MBMed?

Yes. We see MBMed members at our George Central practice and bill the scheme directly at reception. Bring your membership card and your ID.

Will I have to pay up front?

In most cases no. We claim from the scheme in real time. Where your option defines a co-payment, we tell you the amount before the consultation.

Does my option change what is covered?

Yes. Day-to-day GP cover, savings and co-payments are set by your specific option rather than by the practice. Reception verifies your card before the visit, and your scheme can confirm your benefit detail directly.

Do you dispense medicine?

For short-course acute treatment, yes. Dr Chellan and Dr Lakay each hold a Section 22C(1)(a) dispensing licence from the National Department of Health. Chronic medication is collected from a pharmacy of your choice or delivered through Medipost.

Can I be seen on a Saturday?

Yes. We consult 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays, and we accept walk-in patients during consulting hours.

Is my scheme administered by MEDSCHEME?

Yes. MBMed is one of the MEDSCHEME-administered schemes we accept, alongside Fedhealth, GEMS, Medshield and POLMED. If your card or member portal references MEDSCHEME, this page applies to you.

Do I need a referral to see a specialist?

Your NeoHealth GP coordinates your care and should see you first. We arrange the referral through the scheme's Healthcare Professional Portal, or you can reach the Healthcare Provider Contact Centre directly on 0861 112 666.

Other MEDSCHEME-administered schemes

MEDSCHEME administers these schemes, so the claims route and the provider verification process are the same. The benefits themselves are set by each scheme, not by the administrator, and some of these also require a GP nomination.
