NeoHealth (Drs Chellan & Lakay Inc, practice number 1221566) sees Fedhealth members at our George Central practice. Fedhealth is administered by MEDSCHEME, South Africa's largest medical scheme administrator.

If you are on a flexiFED plan, one administrative step changes what your GP visits cost you: nominating your network GP. Nominated visits are paid from the Risk benefit with no co-payment. Un-nominated visits come out of your savings, and can carry a co-payment on top.

Nomination is per beneficiary, not per family. Each dependant who wants to see us as their nominated GP must be nominated separately.

How billing works at NeoHealth

  1. Nominate before your visit where you can. A nomination made after the fact does not retroactively change how that visit was paid.
  2. Nominated flexiFED visits are paid from the Risk benefit with no co-payment.
  3. Non-nominated visits are paid from savings until threshold, then limited above, with a 20% co-payment on in-threshold non-network visits made without a GP referral.
  4. Specialist referrals must come from your nominated network GP, so nominating also keeps your referral pathway clean.
  5. Bring your membership card and ID to every visit.

Do I have to nominate a GP on flexiFED?

On flexiFED 1, 1Elect, 2, 2GRID, 2Elect, 3GRID, 3Elect, 4GRID and 4Elect, yes. Nomination is what moves your GP visits onto the Risk benefit with no co-payment. Without it, visits come out of your savings and can carry a co-payment.

How do I nominate NeoHealth?

Through your Fedhealth member portal or the Fedhealth app. Search for Drs Chellan & Lakay Inc, practice number 1221566, in George, and confirm. Reception can talk you through it if the portal is being difficult.

Does one nomination cover my whole family?

No. Nomination is per beneficiary. Each dependant who wants NeoHealth as their nominated GP has to be nominated individually, which is the single most common thing people get caught by.

What happens if I see a GP who is not my nominated one?

Fedhealth's out-of-nomination benefit covers two visits per beneficiary per year at a network GP other than your nominated one. Beyond those, the visit is paid from your savings until threshold, then limited above it, and on in-threshold non-network visits made without a GP referral there is a 20% co-payment. It is not that you cannot go, it is that it costs you more.

Can I get a specialist referral from you?

Yes, and on flexiFED the referral needs to come from your nominated network GP. If you have nominated us, your referral pathway runs through us as the scheme expects.

Can I nominate more than one GP?

On flexiFED each beneficiary can nominate up to two network GPs, so a second practice can be nominated alongside NeoHealth if that suits your family. Nominations are made through the Fedhealth Family Room member portal or on the official Member Record Amendment Form. The Fedhealth Customer Contact Centre is 0860 002 153.

Can I change my nomination later?

Yes, through the same portal or app. Scheme rules set how often you may change it, so check the current limit in your member portal before switching.
