Remedi GP in George, Remgro Group Members & Families
NeoHealth (Drs Chellan & Lakay Inc, practice number 1221566) welcomes Remedi members at our George Central practice. Remedi is the restricted medical scheme for the Remgro group of companies, which means many of George's Mediclinic and ER24 staff, and corporate families across the Garden Route, carry your card.
Remedi is administered by Discovery Health, so your claims run on Discovery's systems: we bill the scheme directly, in real time, while you're still at reception. Shift work and hospital hours don't fit a 9-to-5 doctor, our 15-20-minute consultations and Saturday-morning hours do.

How billing works at NeoHealth
- Bring your Remedi membership card and ID, we verify your option and benefits at reception.
- We claim directly from Remedi via Discovery Health's systems, real-time, at scheme rates.
- HealthID consent: at your first visit we ask your consent to access your HealthID record, used across Discovery-administered schemes to confirm registered benefits on the spot. Withdraw anytime.
- Chronic care coordinates through your Premier Plus GP, Remedi's named network GP for chronic-condition care programmes, separate from ordinary day-to-day GP choice.
- To register a chronic condition, we submit a Chronic Illness Benefit application online or to chronicapplications@yourremedi.co.za; a new diagnosis needs a fresh application, and the approved ICD-10 codes must appear on every subsequent claim.
- Hospital admissions need pre-authorisation on 0860 116 116, at least 48 hours ahead for planned admissions (emergencies reported within 24 hours, or by the following Monday for a weekend emergency); missing it carries a R3,550 co-payment per admission.
Remedi options we consult
| Option | How your GP benefit works |
|---|---|
| Comprehensive / Classic | No closed day-to-day GP network. Billed directly at 100% of the Remedi Rate in real time. Co-payments apply only where your option defines them, quoted before the consultation, never after. |
| Standard | Unlimited day-to-day GP cover only at your chosen Remedi Standard Option Network GP. A non-network visit falls back to a limited out-of-area benefit: 3 visits per family per year, up to R2,300, not full scheme-rate cover. Confirm our network status with Remedi before booking. |

Remedi questions, answered
Do you accept Remedi patients?
Yes, we bill Remedi directly on all options, in real time via Discovery Health's systems. Bring your membership card and ID.
Who belongs to Remedi?
Employees and dependants of companies in the Remgro group, locally that includes Mediclinic and ER24 staff, among others. It's a restricted (closed) scheme administered by Discovery Health.
Do I pay upfront?
No, we claim from Remedi directly. Co-payments apply only where your option defines them, and we quote them before the consultation.
What is HealthID consent and why do you ask for it?
HealthID is the secure health-record platform used across Discovery-administered schemes. With your consent we can confirm your benefits instantly and coordinate your care. It's requested once, in-rooms, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Is the pap smear covered, and what's the HPV test option?
Yes, Remedi funds a pap smear or an HPV test (your choice) per its frequency limits, from the screening benefit. The procedure is done in-rooms with Dr Lakay and the sample goes to the pathology lab. We'll help you choose which test fits your history.
Does Remedi cover HIV testing?
Yes, unlimited HIV screening tests, funded from the screening benefit. Confidential in-rooms testing with lab confirmation.
Can I get my flu vaccine at NeoHealth?
Yes if you're 65+, pregnant, a healthcare worker, or registered for a listed chronic condition, one flu vaccine per year in-rooms. Otherwise your annual Health Check at a Wellness Network pharmacy covers glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI and HIV screening.
Do you help with chronic benefit applications?
Yes, chronic medication benefits run through Remedi's chronic illness processes. We assist with the application and register qualifying conditions at your visit.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Your Remedi membership card, your ID, and your current medication list, and be ready to sign the quick HealthID consent so we can see your benefits.
