Direct billing, no GP-network restriction

CompCare GP in George, Direct Billing on Every Option

NeoHealth (Drs Chellan & Lakay Inc, practice number 1221566) sees CompCare members at our George Central practice. CompCare is administered by Universal Healthcare.

There is no GP-network gate for face-to-face consultations on CompCare: every option pays a GP visit at 100% of the CompCare rate. What differs by option is where that payment comes from (your savings account, an annual benefit pool, or day-to-day benefits) and, on SelfCare+, a fixed co-payment.

Benefits verified against CompCare 2026 guides: 14 August 2026

How billing works at NeoHealth

  1. Bring your membership card and your ID to every visit so reception can verify your option before you are seen.
  2. We claim from the scheme at reception, in real time, at scheme rates.
  3. On SelfCare+, the R110 GP co-payment is quoted to you before the consultation.
  4. Acute medication dispensed in-rooms where your option allows; chronic medication is collected from a pharmacy of your choice or delivered through Medipost.
  5. For a specialist referral, we issue the referral letter and separately request your Spec Auth from CompCare (0861 222 777 or specauth@universal.co.za) before the visit; skipping this brings a 35% co-payment on the specialist, pathology and radiology.

CompCare questions, answered

Do you accept CompCare?

Yes. We see CompCare members at our George Central practice and bill the scheme directly at reception. Bring your membership card and your ID.

Will I have to pay up front?

In most cases no. We claim from the scheme in real time. On SelfCare+ there is a fixed R110 co-payment per visit, which we tell you about before the consultation.

Do I need to use a network GP?

No. CompCare pays face-to-face GP consultations at 100% of the CompCare rate on every option, there is no GP-network restriction for in-person visits. The 'network' CompCare talks about applies to virtual consultations and the chronic-medicine pharmacy, not to seeing us in-rooms.

Do I need a referral to see a specialist?

Yes, on every option, or a 35% co-payment applies to the specialist visit and any related pathology and radiology. We issue your referral letter and request the required Spec Auth from CompCare before you go. A few specialties are exempt from the referral rule: one gynaecologist visit a year for women over 16, one urologist visit a year for men over 40, paediatrician visits for children under 2, specialist visits during pregnancy, oncology, and optical or dental specialists.

How do I register a chronic condition?

There is no member application form. Your doctor or your pharmacist contacts Universal Care directly to apply for your chronic benefit, we can do this on your behalf. Where the medicine is funded from then depends on your option: your Annual Fund Benefit on SaverCare+, UltraCare and ExecuCare, your Day-to-Day Benefit on ExtraCare, or your savings account on SelfCare+.

Is there a funded annual wellness visit?

Yes. CompCare pays for one GP wellness consultation a year per beneficiary from its Care Maximiser benefit, separate from your day-to-day cover, once you've completed the free health screenings at a DSP pharmacy. Ask us to book it under the wellness visit code.

Do you dispense medicine?

For short-course acute treatment, yes. Dr Chellan and Dr Lakay each hold a Section 22C(1)(a) dispensing licence from the National Department of Health. Chronic medication is collected from a pharmacy of your choice or delivered through Medipost.

Can I be seen on a Saturday?

Yes. We consult 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays, and we accept walk-in patients during consulting hours.
